As concertmaster of the Coachella Valley Symphony, David started violin lessons at age ten with a member of the first violin section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. During his youth, he played as Concertmaster of the various local youth orchestras and with many of the local community orchestras. Graduating from Big Bear High School, he matriculated to Pepperdine University with a full scholarship, playing as Concertmaster for Univesrity - Community Orchestra and as prinipal violinist for the University string quartet, while studying with Alice Schoenfeld. David graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachlor of Arts Degree.
In 1969, at age nineteen, David won a position in the violin sectino of the Kansas City Philharmonic, and was the youngest member of the Orchestra. While there and in other orchestras, David performed with great violinist Yehudi Menuhim, Zino Francescati, Isaac Stern, Ruggero Ricci, with the great pianists Gina Bachaurer, John Browing, and Earl Wild, and with the great guitarists, the Romero Brothers and Christopher Parkening and many others, as well as with some of the world's great conductors, including Zubin Mehta.
With several contracts of other major orchestras in the United States and in Europe in hand, David chose, rather, to return to the Los Angeles area to continue studies and to ultimately pursue a career in commercial music. David briefly participated in the Jascha Heifetz master class at USC and was coached by prominent violinists, while performing occasional solo and chamber music concerts.
David was seen as concertmaster of the opening orchestral scene for the movie, "Competition," sitting behind Richard Dreyfuss. He was seen in the string section of the movie, "Elvis," featuring Kurt Russell, and was in a string quartet sitting behind Ray Charles promoting Scotch Brand Recording Tape, playing on the recording as well.
Throughout his career, David has participated in over one hundred soundtracks for major motion pictures, including the soundtracks for "E.T. the Extra Terrestrial", the "Black Stallion", "The Postman Always Rings Twice", "Flashdance", "Star Trek", "Grease" and many others. David has participated in the soundtracks of hundreds of television film shows, including "Dallas", "Knotts Landing", "Highway to Heaven", "Little House on the Prairie", "Father Murphy", "Bosom Buddies", and many others. David has recorded with virtually every Hollywood film composer.
As for television "live" specials, David has performed in many, including the American Music Awards and the American Country Music Awards shows, and those of Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Ingrid Bergman, John Denver, Neil Diamond, Doris Day, among others. David has also performed on the "Tonight Show, starring Johnny Carson" and on the Merv Griffin television shows.
He has also performed on hundred of records of which many albums or cuts have become very popular. Incuded are "New York New York", by Frank Sinatra, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore", by Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond, "Candy Man" and "Mr. Bojangles", by Sammy Davis Jr. and by several others including John Denver, Percy Faith, David Rose, Larence Welk, Henry Mancini, to name a few. Three favorite albums were Sinatra's "Trilogy", Neil Diamond's "Hot August Night" and "An Evening with John Denver".
For fifteeen years, David had the pleasure and opportunity to accompany Frank Sinatra in tours, Vegas and Lake Tahoe engagements as well as benefit appearnaces, record sessions, television specias and concerts. He also played lead violinist for Freddy Martin's big band paying on five ship cruises, very special occasions, including what was dubbed the "The New Year's Party of America," a party thrown aby author Harold Robbins; significant openings like the opening of the Beverly Center, The Macy's in San Francisco, the Grant Hotel in San Diego. In 1973, David played with Freddy at La Casa Pacifica, or, the Western White House, for then President Nixon and wealthy Hollywood celebrities. Thereafter, David and his wife and parents were invited to the Nixon home on two other occasions. David has performed for Presidents Nixon, Ford and Reagan and for several governors and U.S. Vice Presidents.
Performing as a member of the Gendale Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Carmen Dragon, and later Lalo Shifrin, as a member of the Caifornia Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Henry Temianka and as member of the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, for eight weeks each. "Knickbacher Holiday" starring Burt Lancaster, "Applause" starring Laruen Bacal and "Candide" and "Sweeney Todd" starring Angela Lansbury which was video-recorded and shown on PBS. Also he was a member of the Los Angeles Pops Orchestra. He has perfomed with Pavarotti, Nureyeyv, Barishnikov, and with the touring companies of Boshoi Balet, Moiseyev Dance, San Francisco Ballet, Swedish National Ballet, Radio City Music Hall Dance, American Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, etc. While playing at the now "Grove", formerly the "Coconut Grove", David played hundreds of times with Sammy Davis Jr. and for many of the days' important night club acts including Jack Jones, Anthony Newley and Cher.
